I am so excited to continue my online academy series in 2021! Stefan’s Sessions is a masterclass series launched in 2020 as a way for musicians to continue performing, discussing, and learning during quarantine. In each episode, I take viewers on a deep dive into one masterpiece of the violin repertoire. I will be joined by four up-and-coming violinists, who will each perform one movement from the work.
The sixth episode in the series will be devoted to JS Bach's Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006, focusing on 4 movements: I. Preludio, II. Loure, III. Gavotte en rondeau, and VII. Gigue.
The outstanding young violinists joining me each episode will be chosen via online application, and each musician will perform a movement of the piece live on Zoom. After each performance, I’ll provide a brief analysis of the movement, we’ll discuss various possible interpretations of the music, technical solutions to tricky passages, and I’ll also offer tips and tricks to get the most out of a performance of the piece. At the end of each episode, we’ll open up the session to viewer questions regarding the repertoire of the day, general violin technique, and career advice.
Applications are open for Episode 6 of Stefan’s Sessions! The sixth episode of the series, featuring Bach Partita No. 3 in E Major, will air on Friday, April 23 (time TBD) on Zoom. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 16. Future episodes to be announced!
For each episode, one performer will be selected to perform each movement of the piece. Applicants must upload a video to YouTube of themselves playing one of the movements of the repertoire in question. Applicants who wish to apply for multiple movements may submit a separate application for each one. Please note, access to an external microphone is required.
The deadline for video applications to play in Episode 6 (Bach Partita No. 3 in E Major) is April 16. The four violinists chosen for Episode 6 will be notified by April 20.
